We can't bring back their parents, but we can give them a happy childhood and a promising future

About us

Stichting Children of Heroes of Ukraine was established on April 28, 2023, with the mission to provide comprehensive, long-term support to children who have lost one or both parents due to russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Our assistance spans various programs, offering financial aid, mental health support, and resources to promote their development.

The children we support may reside in Ukraine or abroad and are cared for until they reach the age of 18, the legal age of adulthood in Ukraine. We are committed to ensuring each child receives the help they need to thrive, including any resources or services essential for their well-being and growth.

Children aged between 0 and 18 years who have lost one or both parents as a result of russian military aggression in Ukraine

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE POLICY PLAN

Objectives and Activities of Stichting Children of Heroes of Ukraine

Objective

Our mission is to provide comprehensive, long-term support to children (and their families), aged 0 to 18, who have lost one or both parents due to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Many of these children have been forced to leave their homes and communities, making them victims of this tragic conflict.

Vision

We strive to empower the children we support to lead happy, healthy, and successful lives.

Values

Our work is guided by these core values:

  • Do no harm: Prioritizing the safety and well-being of every child.
  • Holistic approach: Addressing multiple aspects of each child’s needs.
  • Long-term impact: Ensuring sustainable and tangible improvements in their lives.

How We Achieve Our Objectives

Stichting Children of Heroes of Ukraine works toward its mission by creating and funding support programs tailored to the needs of the children and their families. We also engage in any other lawful activities that align with and advance our objectives in the broadest sense.

How do we achieve our goals?

Foundation Children of Ukraine will achieve its objectives in the coming years by setting up and financing support programs for the benefit of the Foundation’s target group and all other lawful means and actions, which may be conducive to achieving the objective or are related to it in the broadest sense.

ABOUT SUPPORT PROGRAMS

More information

Support of our target group will take place, in particular by providing direct help and financial contributions, for:

Emergency Support: Initial medical aid, as well as providing housing and home repair, including evacuation.

Humanitarian Aid: Ensures that basic needs are met during childhood, including food, housing, legal and other advice/counseling.

Education and Development: Offers children education, language courses, tutoring, learning supplies, mentorship, and career guidance.

Healthcare: Covers children’s medical costs, including psychological support.

Socialization: Provides opportunities for participation in social events, summer camps, travel in Ukraine and abroad.

Other help and assistance to the children and their families.

Fundraising

The foundation is a non-profit organization that is dependent on funding and contributions from third-parties. To enable us to carry out our objectives and support the children, we raise funds from individuals, companies, and other organizations in Ukraine and other European countries. We achieve this by leveraging the business and private networks of the members of the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board, other charitable institutions in Europe, through the internet, social media, and through working with cooperating partners.

These contributions can be in the form of:

  • Gifts and donations
  • Endowments, bequests and testamentary dispositions (under the benefit of inventory)
  • Sponsor funds
  • Grants
  • Income from fundraising activities
  • Other income and any proceeds thereof

Management of the assets of the foundation

The assets of the foundation are managed by the board. Given the objective of our foundation, the funds received will be spent within one to two years on our goals and to cover costs of maintaining the foundation.

Expenditures

Our goal requires significant funding. As russian aggression continues, there will be an indefinite need to provide support to new children who require the foundation’s help.

Administration

The foundation is obliged to keep records. These records must show, among other things:

  • Which expense allowances and attendance fees have been paid to the individual board members and members of the supervisory board;
  • The nature and extent of the costs of fundraising, managing the foundation and other expenses;
  • The nature and size of the foundation’s income;
  • The nature and size of the foundation’s assets.

The expenses of the foundation are divided into several categories:

  • Expenses for the realization of our support programs through local suppliers and partners and organizations, such as expenses for the purchase of necessary goods, costs of (temporary) housing, expenses to cover medical costs, provision of services, and other related needs.
  • Operational and administrative costs.
