Three-year-old Matviy and his family are originally from Volnovakha in the eastern Donetsk region. His father was a children’s weightlifting coach before volunteering to join the territorial defense forces at the onset of the war. It took just three days for the invading Russian forces to destroy their city. Tragically, Matviy’s father was killed by an enemy mine in April. Left without their father and husband by their side, Matviy and his mother moved to Cherkasy, roughly 500 kilometers (342 miles) away, for safety.
Since joining the Fund, the family has received diapers, new shoes, legal assistance, support from the “1K for Ukraine” program, fleece clothing, a monetary gift for Matviy’s birthday, a heater for their home, grocery vouchers as well as toys and clothes from colleagues among the Foundation’s employees. The family is currently in need of more diapers, a crib and new clothing.
